About FLY
Making education interesting for all.
Fun Learning Youth (FLY) is a youth-led organization utilizing cohort-based mentorship to reduce dropout within middle-school underprivileged students in India.
We are not trying to "innovate" for its own sake. We are trying to be present: consistent, kind, and clear about why school matters when life gets heavy.
Our story
Pooja is a good friend of our co-founders. At the age of 14, during the pandemic, she paused going to school and did not have devices to attend online classes. Soon her family decided they would let her work as a house help and let go of education. They planned to marry her off as she would turn 18.
But how will she ever progress, be more independent, and follow her passion? Does she even know what her passion is? Talking to Pooja about this was the turning point. She wanted to study. The situation did not let her.
Our co-founders started teaching Pooja and her brother in their backyard. One day, Pooja asked if she could bring friends along. Why not?
Soon they were teaching 20 students in the same backyard. If one street could have so many students in need of interesting education, how many could there be in the city, country, and world? And FLY was born.

We are incorporated as a nonprofit with Corporations Canada. Local and national newspapers have helped us spread the word about retention rates in schools. Generous supporters have funded our work, and we are grateful for people who give time, advice, and resources - especially in crucial moments.

What do you need to become a member?
You need to be passionate about whatever you plan to contribute to us. You can use your skills and plan out a way to help us. We can work on it together to help underprivileged kids.
Why should you join?
Interact with students on the ground and solve real problems, with a community of highly driven individuals with a passion for social transformation.
What do you do once you join?
Based on your skills and interests, we can use your help in various ways for the mission.
What positions do we have?
Positions are super seubjective, based on your interests. We are always looking for people who can teach, and have access to community. More positions might look like storytellers, community organizers, researchers, and engineers. For now, the roles are volunteer-based and remote.
How to form a chapter?
Reach out to your local community members and schools, find 1-2 students who you think are at risk of dropping out, and start teaching them. More will follow.
